But the lib dens had a reduced vote. Both now regognise that it is, ok to say I won but if you cannot pass law or budget it a hollow win.
The first past the post is doomed regardless of the lib dems.
People will have more say regardless of any party wish and I think we are now entering a more accountable style of goveranceAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36604103.post-55939551521316250582010-05-07T13:09:23.146+01:002010-05-07T13:09:23.146+01:00Anonymous...not wishing to hijack Pauls blog, but ...Anonymous...not wishing to hijack Pauls blog, but it is not 'crap' it is in the constitution of the UK.
OK perhaps we do need some electoral reform to redress such inconsistencies but as it stands now, without an overall majority (which unfortunately the Tories didn't get) whichever party ends up in power will not be able to win votes to pass laws without the support of members of other parties.
It really is down to the Lib Dems to call the shots on what happens next.
My bet is on a re-run of the election before the year is out as I don't believe Mr Cameron wants to form a minority Government (not that he couldn't), unless my 'spidey sense' is failing me I don't think Nick Clegg will dance to the tune of Gordon Brown either and he isn't all that convinced that Tory policy is conducive with what he believes is good for the UK as a whole either.
There is a lot of 'horse trading' to be gone into, and over the next few days we should get a 'feel' for how things are going to pan out...even if just for the short term.Kev Owennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36604103.post-73843588544402958002010-05-07T12:50:19.651+01:002010-05-07T12:50:19.651+01:00Where does this hung parliament ruling come from, ...Where does this hung parliament ruling come from, what a load of crap. In my eye the conservatives are clear winners so let them get on with it. To gain power of government should be down to the last seat not a majority. Then it would make every party scrap for every seat. This law on this hung parliament rule wants throwing out.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36604103.post-4921019408591217072010-05-07T11:03:30.916+01:002010-05-07T11:03:30.916+01:00Hi Kev

Ian Cawsey is a great guy, very affable and personable, but didn't do enough locally over the past 5 years to win. I wish him well for the future.

Car parking.... it's in the Town Council's court, localising the decision making process and some of the fund raising, working in partnership has to be the way forward... does it not?Paul Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06636206315807459743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36604103.post-79084388696042774792010-05-07T07:59:51.099+01:002010-05-07T07:59:51.099+01:00Congratulations David, a 3.2% increase in the majo...Congratulations David, a 3.2% increase in the majority to boot!

Andrew Percy ousted Ian Cawsey in a spectacular 9.8%swing to the Conservatives from Labour.

Now then...about these proposed parking charges... ;-)Kev Owennoreply@blogger.com
